History of the RLDS Church

8 volumes

The History of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Independence, Missouri: Herald House. The official eight-volume history of the Reorganized Church (RLDS), the body of Latter Day Saints that followed Joseph Smith III rather than Brigham Young after the 1844 death of the founding prophet. Covering 1805 to 1946, the set traces the movement from Joseph Smith’s birth through the early church, the succession crisis, the Reorganization of the 1850s–1860s, and the church’s twentieth-century development; the first four volumes were compiled principally by church historian Heman C. Smith, with later volumes carried forward by F. Henry Edwards and others. Complete in eight volumes.
